Folks,

You've probably noticed a dearth of activity here--we are transitioning to using our website and Facebook for our communications and discussions.  We hope you will join us there.

However, there are several events coming up that I want to let you know about here, so that no one will be left out of the loop.

Tonight (Nov. 17) there is a Transportation Action Group meeting to plan for 2012 events and activities.  We need your ideas!

Saturday (Nov. 19) is our first Permablitz of the season.  Yay!

Tuesday, December 6 is our Transition Houston meeting, which will be a potluck at the Green Building Resource Center.  This is a most excellent venue (you need to visit at least once, if not many times) and our potlucks are a lot of fun.

Please come join our community in person at these events, and online at our website and FB!

In case everyone hasn't migrated to FB by this point, here's a heads up:  There's a bike repair workshop this Sunday!  Please RSVP so the shop has enough mechanics on hand:  https://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=295599237117287

Worth visiting the groovy GBRC if you haven't! + learn more about HAUS and Thermal infrared scanning for heat loss, moisture, poltergeists and so forth.

Here are the details of the Sept. 23rd (this Friday) screening of The Power of Community at the University of Houston Clear Lake. The film will be followed by a discussion panel featuring Mark Juedeman, Hank Hodde, and myself. We'll be discussing topics related to the film such as peak oil, Permaculture and urban gardening/farming, and economic resilience. Hope to see you there!

P.S. The CLTC would be interested in purchasing wholesale books and reselling in the Bay Area : )

um... I couldn't wait and already ordered one.  I'm happy to share it, though!

Mark, I've got so many books here at the house that it is unreal. I don't really feel inclined to purchase another one. I am more hands-on with stuff, so if I could learn how to do things with somebody showing me and taking me step by step through a process, that would be better for me. I love to read, no doubt, but I just don't want to take the time to read a book and then try to apply the concepts by myself. I'd rather do things with other people and then maybe try "the thing" at home with my husband. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Hey Dean, thanks for the heads-up!

We (Transition Houston core team) have been discussing whether to order the Transition Companion and other transition-y books from Chelsea Green and then resell them at a discount to folks here.  I'm curious how much interest there is if we were to do that?
