A meeting is what I seek.
I should show up at the library off Rosewood at 7PM on Wednesday?
Sustainably Yours,
John

I like what you present of your thought processes, as well.
I just finished reading "The Report From Iron Mountain", controversial, but a thing which speaks for itself about the "practical considerations" as seen by the ruling elites (optimum levels of destruction of life and property, eugenic functions, necessity of war, etc.)
It is certainly meritorious reading, though about 45 years old now, and much contained within it has come to be tried. John Kenneth Galbraith acknowledged involvement in the project, then suddenly claimed he had been misquoted (by the tape recorder). Obviously, it is a realistic formulation of thought, whether officially government sanctioned, or not. It is giving me much to consider on my exercise-ride now.
I think we can escape such cruel machinations, but how?
This Wednesday IS a movie night, no?
Aloha,
John
I think we have an en-elected ruling class (the plutocrats/corporatists) who control the economy and the government, and that these folks still think exactly as they did in the early 18th century, when capitalists began to overwhelm the Crown in England, i.e., anyone who's not one of them is to be disregarded, as NOLA was disregarded, save for the ways it wasn't, which were worse than if that area had also been disregarded, such as the public schools.
I want to be positive, too, and I am positive that if we can get off the barrel the ruling class has us over, we can live better lives than humans have ever lived, and that's what keeps me in the game. Organizing local social institutions seems to me to be a good program.
I am really happy to have you aboard. You bring a lot to the table, and it looks like you'll be at the table soon. That's excellent!
Thanks Tom and Tommy,
It looks like I can bike down Red River to E11th, cross over I-35 and take Rosewood to that library.
I've been looking over the home page as you suggested.
I couldn't tell right away when the hub meeting was happening. As it is, I work long days Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so the pot-luck won't work.
Tommy, My "ahead of the curve" comment, was more like not getting killed by the tsunami, than having built your house on a hill. I fully agree that it was said in the 70s that a 30 year lead-up would involve great difficulty, but not destruction of the society. 10 years of lead-up was considered to be a basic disaster. Peak oil was 5 years ago, and it is still not part of the national political discussion. It appears that the working plan is to just let city by city go Katrina, and cordon them off, put the people in FEMA camps, and maintain order in the functioning parts.
I'm sorry to seem so negative. I'm really a positive person. I've just become painfully aware of the patterns of human mass action through history, and I think I see what the situation is.
